With so many options available, it can be hard to choose the best sherwani design! We're here to help you make your decision easier with our comprehensive guide to sherwanis.

What is a Sherwani?

Sherwani is a traditional outfit worn by men from South Asia. It consists of a long coat and trousers made from silk, chiffon, or cotton fabric. A sherwani may also have ornamental embroidery, mirror work, and sequin work. The coat usually has two side flaps that are fastened at the front with decorative buttons or loops.

The straps at the back can be tied together to form an X-shape or left loose to hang over the clothes. There are four types of looping styles: "Churidar", "Bandhgala", "Anarkali", and "Turban".

The inner sherwani is a loose-fitting shirt made from the same fabric as the outer sherwani. The  sherwani has a V-neck and usually long sleeves. It is often worn under the coat to show off the elaborate embroidery and mirrorwork of the coat.

In Pakistan, Inner Sherwanis are called kurta pajamas (kurta referring to shirt, pajama referring to trousers). Some people wear an undershirt called a Pancha underneath their inner sherwani.
